As a reward for finishing the tough Common Entrance exams, we went on an exciting trip to Haworth, St Peter’s York and Scarborough, or as Mr Taylor calls it, ‘Scarbados’! We catered for each other & shared new things. The activities we had a chance to experience included trampolining, rowing on the River Ouse, indoor cricket, youth hostelling and visiting the seaside for some good old fish’n’chips (two of our party also swam in the River Ouse, but that wasn’t exactly planned…). Here we have gathered together a few of our memories:
I loved the haunted house at Scarborough because it was actually really scary and Izzy only came inside to laugh at how bad it would be…but turned out to be screaming the hardest (Celia)
I loved doing flips backwards and forwards at the trampoline centre and pushing each other into the foam pits (Alex)
It was great watching Izzy and Celia slowly tip and then capsize their rowing boat. When they fell into the freezing water, Izzy quickly clambered up to sit astride the boat like she was horse riding (Esme A)
I enjoyed becoming famous within moments of arriving at the hostel for carrying a huge box of chilled food up two long staircases to then be asked to take it back down three flights! (Tom)
I loved managing to land some forward flips at Energi trampoline centre, but standing next to Celia, failing to persuade her to jump off a platform for ages, was not so much fun (Izzy)
I enjoyed the foam pits as much as Alex did and I loved playing a successful cheeky reverse sweep off my first ball of the cricket match (Emma)
I loved the haunted house attraction at Scarborough because of all the screaming from my friends (not me, obviously!) (Esme B)
I really liked having a meal out and seeing Haworth village – my cheeseburger was great! (Anton)
I enjoyed the trampoline park as I’m quite good at doing a series of flips (Zach)
I was really proud of my improved bowling in our mixed cricket match (Emma)
I enjoyed rowing for the first time. The rigger dipping to prove that the boat doesn’t tip over easily involved raising alternate arms to dip the boat in either direction. Alex and I were good at this (Tom)
I was pleased about not falling into the River Ouse in the swell and undercurrent. I also enjoyed my scampi and halloumi fries when we ate out (Alex)
I managed to do an amazing gymnastic flip on the St Peter’s, York play area (Izzy)
I hit the ball and scored some runs in the cricket match against some good bowlers. I also didn’t get dismissed (Esme A)
I found it difficult in rowing to keep the two blade spoons on the surface of the water simultaneously for balance (Celia)
Rowing was new and fun to try as it was something I’d never experienced (Esme B)
I managed a front flip on the trampoline for the first time (Anton)
The constant shout of ‘Hands together!’ in rowing will stay with me! (Zach)
