Wellow Weekly 19th April 2024

HEADTEACHER’S MESSAGE

A very warm welcome back to the Summer Term. Let us hope that the weather becomes kinder to us this term!
All the children have settled wonderfully well and what a terrific start we had with our Futures morning.  This gave food for thought for careers in the years to come!
The Summer Term is one that is very busy at Wellow so do please keep your calendar safe and look out for future updates.
Have a lovely weekend.

PRE-PREP

Mandarin and Chinese Studies

A great start to this term’s Mandarin and Chinese Studies after school group.

We practiced some Chinese calligraphy and how putting two different words in Mandarin together makes new words – such as how the word for fire 火 (pronounced “wharrr”) and the word for mountain 山 (pronounced “shannn”) combine to make the word for volcano 火山 “wharr Shannn”, a literal “fire mountain”.

We also had a look at the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival, a large celebration throughout China that happens in late Spring/early Summer each year, and has done for well over 2000 years now.

Well done to all our pre prep linguists!

Mr. Huzij
