Wellow Weekly 7th June 2024

HEADTEACHER’S MESSAGE

Welcome to our weekly bulletin.

It is has felt an even busier week this week than the norm! As you can see from the bulletin, there has been a wealth of activities, both in and out of school this week.

Having this breadth of opportunity is so beneficial to the whole school community. Having visited the residential I’m always amazed at our children’s resilence and perserverance. Thank you for your support and the teaching team for enabling these to happen.

PRE-SCHOOL

In Pre School we have been learning all about the Colour Monsters and discussing emotions.
Can you guess how we are feeling? ❤️💛🩷💚💙🩶

PRE-PREP

During music this week, Reception had an introduction to percussion instruments. We learned how to play them softly and loudly and experimented with rhythms. We played them along to some of our favourite nursery rhymes and learned the new song ‘London’s Burning’.

PREP

LAMDA Success in Year 3

Lucy in Year 3 was recently awarded a Distinction for her LAMDA examination. Ms. Kollati and all of the Prep staff are very proud of her creativity and achievement! When we hear how Phoebe (Year 5) and Edward (Year 3) did in their exam, we will let you know.

Good luck to Chloe (Y3), Finley (Y4), Lauren (Y6) and Lyla -Rae (Y4) who have their examinations this weekend.

LAMDA exams are designed to develop life skills, such as clear communication, self confidence and teamwork, through the creative platforms of drama, literature and music. All levels of LAMDA exams are accredited as recognisable equivalents to standard qualifications: Level 1 exams (Grades 1-3) are the equivalent of low grades at GCSE, Level 2 (Grades 4 and 5) high grade GCSE and Level 3 (Grades 6,7 and 8) have the equivalent UCAS points (for university applications) of AS and A-Levels.

At Wellow we offer LAMDA lessons 1:1 with a specialist teacher.

If you are interested in your child starting their LAMDA journey, please contact school for more information.

ISA Butterfly Art Competition 2024

This week, ISA announced the results for the ISA Butterfly Art Competition, which had over 750 entries!

Faith in Year 6 was awarded Second Place in the Year 5-6 category – an amazing achievement, especially considering the number of entries. Huge congratulations for representing Wellow and for your achievement for a fantastic piece of work!

Ms. Pawson and everyone at Wellow are incredibly proud of all of the students who submitted work!

You can see all the winning entries on the ISA website: https://www.isaschools.org.uk/arts/isa-arts-eyfs-and-primary/butterfly-art-competition.html

Year 5 and 6 Residential to Kingswood

Monday to Wednesday of this week saw members of Year 5 and 6 (along with Miss Wood and Mr Stanley) visit Kingswood at Dearne Valley.

Students had an amazing time participating in activities such as Problem Solving, Wall Climbing, Zip Wire, Bushcraft, Low Ropes and the Leap of Faith (and the staff had a good go, too!)

The trip was a fantastic opportunity for students to develop their team building skills, as well as their resilience and life skills – from making their own beds to encouraging and supporting each other through activities.

Students who attended had the opportunity to talk about the trip in Assembly this morning, and encourage younger Prep students to visit when their time comes!

All students were fantastic representatives for Wellow!
